Biography
Diane Levin-Zamir is a Full Professor at the School of Public Health at the University of Haifa and, until recently, served as the National Director of the Health Promotion Department at Clalit, Israel's largest healthcare organization. She also teaches Health Promotion at the School of Public Health at Tel Aviv University’s Medical School.
Diane has served as a scientific advisor to the Asian Health Literacy Association (AHLA) since its inception, participating in conferences aimed at advancing knowledge and fostering partnerships for health literacy across the region. She is the Research Co-Chair of the WHO Action Network on Measuring Population and Organizational Health Literacy (M-POHL), where she also chairs working groups focused on Digital Health Literacy and Organizational Health Literacy in Primary Care.
Nationally, she chairs the Israeli Ministry of Health’s National Health Promotion Council and serves on advisory committees addressing cultural and language accessibility, as well as equity in the healthcare system. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributed book chapters, and co-edited volumes on health promotion and health literacy. Her work emphasizes applied research and policy in diverse settings—including special populations, culturally tailored approaches, communities, hospitals, primary care, and media/digital platforms. Diane is the Principal Investigator for the HLS19 and HLS24 Israel National Health Literacy Surveys and serves as an Associate Editor for the Global Health Promotion journal.
Contributions to Public Health
Diane has a lot of contributions to health literacy span global, international, regional, and local levels. Globally, she co-founded the IUHPE Health Literacy Global Working Group in 2010 and continues to play an active role in its leadership. She was instrumental in the establishment of the International Health Literacy Association, serving on its inaugural Board of Directors and leading the development of its global summit programs.
